Zelensky’s Remarks on Escalating Tensions and Drone Attacks near Moscow

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the escalating tensions between Ukraine and Russia, stating that the “war is gradually returning to Russia”. In a video address from Ivano-Frankivsk, he emphasized that the ongoing conflict has surpassed 522 days, far exceeding the Russian leadership’s initial expectations of a brief “Special Military Operation”.

Zelensky pointed out that the war is now reaching the symbolic centers and military bases within Russia, characterizing it as an inevitable and just process. Russia refers to its invasion as a ‘Special Military Operation’.

Following the Kremlin’s accusation of Kyiv targeting Moscow with drones, the Russian Defence Ministry reported that three drones were intercepted on Sunday. However, a business and shopping development in the west of the capital suffered damage, specifically on the fifth and sixth floors of a 50-story building. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported from the incident.

Videos depicting debris and emergency services at the scene circulated, highlighting the gravity of the situation. Yurii Ihnat, a spokesperson for Ukraine’s Air Force, explained that the recent drone attacks on Moscow aimed to make the war feel more immediate for Russians who previously perceived it as distant.
