WRD decided Orathur, a tributary of the Adyar River to be completed before the northeast monsoon
The Water Resources Department (WRD) has outlined plans to expedite the construction of a reservoir across the Orathur tributary of the Adyar River before the onset of the northeast monsoon. The project, estimated at ₹55.85 crore, aims to connect the Orathur and Arambakkam tanks near Padappai in Sriperumbudur taluk.
The reservoir will play a crucial role in mitigating floods in downstream areas of the river, ensuring enhanced flood control measures. Additionally, the reservoir will serve as a vital freshwater source to meet the growing drinking water requirements of Chennai.
The WRD is committed to completing the project promptly, prioritizing the welfare of residents, and ensuring sustainable water management practices in the region.
