The flood situation in Assam has taken a turn for the worse as the Brahmaputra and other major rivers continue to rise, impacting more than 3.4 lakh people across 22 districts, as reported by officials. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) revealed that Majuli stands as the worst-hit district with 65,035 people affected by the recent floods, followed by Goalpara and Morigaon. Currently, 1,308 individuals have sought refuge in 153 relief camps, while relief efforts are being conducted through 150 designated centers.
The natural calamity has also led to the inundation of 13 of the 44 campgrounds at the Orang National Park and Tiger Reserve, as well as 10 campers in the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, as per the forest department’s notification. Additionally, 33 roadways have been damaged in various districts, and incidents of embankment breaches and large-scale erosion have been recorded. Despite the dire situation, no fresh casualties have been reported due to the flooding.
