The World Bank has committed to funding projects aimed at creating safe and smart streets as part of the second phase of the Chennai City Partnership. The initiative seeks to develop walkable neighborhoods and alleviate congestion through the promotion of urban mobility and spatial development.
Civic authorities recently convened a meeting to discuss the project’s implementation, set within a timeline of 2022-2027. The second phase of the Chennai City Partnership will receive $350 million in funding to bolster the capacities of key entities such as the Greater Chennai Corporation, the Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (CUMTA), and the Metropolitan Transport Corporation.
The projects will also emphasize the enhancement of digital infrastructure for e-mobility and smart parking solutions, along with improvements in bus and suburban rail services.
