The World Bank has pledged its support to the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) to achieve sustainable waste management and eliminate waste dumping by 2026-2027. The initiative aims to halt waste disposal in Kodungaiyur, followed by Perungudi, fostering a zero-waste city.
A 20-year plan includes comprehensive studies and reforms to enhance solid waste management and recycling. GCC officials are focusing on creating a circular economy to minimize environmental impact and resource usage. The World Bank’s study will guide future waste management strategies, with proposals awaiting approval from the Chennai Corporation Council.
