Woman Commits Suicide in Pakistan Over Unrestored Electricity Supply
Amid Pakistan’s struggles with inflation and high taxes, a woman in Punjab province took her own life after her electricity supply was not restored despite her payment of a 10,000 PKR bill, as reported on Tuesday. According to her husband, he had resorted to selling household belongings and taking a loan to settle the bill. However, the Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) had failed to restore the supply that had been cut off due to non-payment.
This dire situation left the family without funds for food, and the mother of four tragically consumed poison in distress over her children’s lack of sustenance. Although she was quickly taken to a hospital, her life could not be saved. This incident emerged amidst ongoing nationwide protests against exorbitant electricity bills, marked by citizens burning their bills to express their frustration.
