WHO Condemns Deadly Strike on Gaza Refugee Camp as Death Toll Rises
The World Health Organization (WHO) expressed strong condemnation following a deadly Israeli strike on the Al-Maghazi refugee camp in Gaza, decrying the loss of at least 70 lives, including entire families and children. WHO’s team, visiting a Gaza hospital, heard distressing accounts from health workers and victims, witnessing the overwhelming impact on medical facilities.
The Al-Aqsa hospital in Deir al-Balah received around 100 casualties, exceeding its capacity. The agency’s chief, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, emphasized the urgent need for a ceasefire, describing the situation as “unacceptable.” One poignant case involved a critically injured nine-year-old named Ahmed, receiving pain relief as he faced an irreparable brain injury from the blast.
WHO warned that Gaza’s hospitals are in dire conditions, with only nine of the original 36 remaining partially functional. The agency called on the international community to address the escalating humanitarian crisis and put an end to the violence.
