West Bengal Government Initiates Welfare Board for Delivery Persons
In a significant move to ensure the welfare of delivery persons, the West Bengal government is set to establish a dedicated welfare board. State Labour Minister Malay Ghatak has already given approval to the process, with the proposal to be forwarded for state cabinet approval.
The decision comes as delivery persons, not being on regular company payrolls, and lack retirement and related benefits. To address this, a separate fund will be formed, enabling delivery persons to access retirement benefits, including the provident fund.
The board will serve as a platform for addressing their social and financial concerns, especially since they lack a specific appointing authority and face challenges due to disorganization. This new forum aims to empower delivery persons with a dedicated platform for issue resolution and ensure their overall well-being.
