Water Pollution and Infrastructure Woes Plague T. Nagar Amid Flyover Construction
Residents of T. Nagar are grappling with water pollution issues due to the rerouting of pipelines for the new flyover on South Usman Road. The construction has caused damage to water and sewer lines, resulting in contaminated piped water supplies, exacerbated by the area’s reliance on piped water due to diminishing groundwater levels.
Additionally, concerns are mounting over the efficacy of storm-water drains, now prone to causing flooding. With monsoon approaching, residents urge the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) to expedite and coordinate the infrastructure work. Officials have acknowledged the problems and assured that initiatives to repair pipelines and improve sewage capacity are underway, with completion targeted around the upcoming Pongal festival.
