Delhi Water Minister Atishi raised a red flag on Tuesday, warning of an impending severe water crisis in the national capital due to the suspension of funds for the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) since August. Atishi, who recently took charge of the Water Department, highlighted the Finance Minister’s written orders for fund release, which have not been implemented, causing disruptions in salaries and routine operations.
The minister expressed concern that contractors have refused to work, leading to potential water shortages, contamination, and sewer overflows in various areas. Atishi declared the situation as an emergency and urged Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena to intervene promptly to address the critical issue.
