Violence Prompts Indefinite Closure of Maharaja’s College in Kerala

Maharaja’s College in Ernakulam, Kerala, has been indefinitely shut down following an alleged stabbing incident involving a member of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) on January 18. Affiliated to the Fraternity Movement, the assailants prompted the closure of college hostels as well. An emergency meeting of the college council decided on the indefinite closure to prevent potential tensions on campus.

Seeking police assistance to avert further clashes among student organizations, the authorities plan to submit a detailed report to the Department of Higher Education regarding recent incidents of violence.

The college had recently witnessed clashes between SFI and the Kerala Students Union (KSU), and the report aims to address the underlying issues and recommend measures for maintaining law and order. Despite a proposal for an all-party meeting, it has been postponed until directed by the Department of Higher Education.
