Village Panchayat Orders Public Punishment for Video Sharing in Uttar Pradesh

In a disturbing incident from Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur district, a village panchayat instructed a girl to publicly hit a boy with her slippers as a punishment for allegedly circulating a video of their private conversation on social media. The incident, captured in a viral video, shows the girl hitting the boy with her slippers while villagers direct the accused boy not to hide his face and even tear his shirt.

The village elder then orders the accused to apologize to the girl. The girl had filed a complaint against the boy on August 13, alleging that he had recorded their conversation and shared it online. Authorities have initiated an investigation based on her complaint.

Abhishek Sinha, Circle Officer of the Garhmukteshwar area, stated that while the video’s authenticity cannot be confirmed, a case is being pursued and netizens have raised questions about the need for a panchayat intervention when a case was already registered.
