Victory Memorial Blind School’s Heritage Building Set for Restoration

The 131-year-old red brick heritage building at Victory Memorial Blind School, Poonamallee, is slated for a ₹24.20 crore restoration by the Public Works Department. Constructed between 1888 and 1893, the building, initially used by the British military, has deteriorated over time but remains structurally stable.

Currently housing a school for visually impaired students, the building’s restoration is prioritized due to its historical value. The work will include repairing the roof and walls while preserving its Mangalore tiled roof and exposed brickwork. Classes will continue in adjacent buildings during the restoration, set to begin within a few months.
