Uttar Pradesh to Establish Its First Human Milk Bank in Agra
Uttar Pradesh is set to establish its first human milk bank in Agra, where human milk will be collected, screened, processed, pasteurized, and distributed to mothers in need.
This initiative was announced by Ashok Goyal, the founder president of Help Agra, an NGO that offers affordable healthcare to citizens. Donated by lactating mothers, the collected milk will be stored at minus 20 degrees in the freezer, remaining safe and usable for up to a year.
The milk bank aims to provide optimum nutritional support to newborns, particularly during the first six months after birth. It will benefit mothers who may not be able to lactate due to various reasons and help infants, including premature babies with gastro disorders and metabolic issues, receive the vital nourishment they need for healthy growth.
