Uttar Pradesh Government’s Vigilant Efforts to Combat Lumpy Skin Disease in Cattle
In a proactive measure to combat the spread of lumpy skin disease in cattle, the Uttar Pradesh government has committed to ensuring the availability of one crore vaccine doses. The directive, issued by UP Animal Husbandry Minister Dharmpal Singh, comes as 65 lakh vaccine doses have already been administered, with 1.18 crore distributed across districts. With cases reported in 40 districts and 8,825 affected cattle, the disease has claimed 59 lives so far.
The minister emphasized a daily administration target of 3.5 lakh vaccine doses and strict actions against any unauthorized animal fairs. Additionally, focus will shift to unaffected districts, particularly in west and central UP, for goatpox vaccine distribution and disease prevention in Varanasi. The government also plans to increase cow shelter capacity in coordination with the urban development department and expedite artificial insemination efforts.
