The United States has extended heartfelt condolences to South Korea for the tragic loss of life and widespread destruction caused by devastating wildfires in the southeastern region.
A statement from the US State Department emphasized America’s solidarity with its ally, offering full support in battling the fires and assisting affected communities. Over 28 people have lost their lives, and thousands have been displaced, with more than 38,000 hectares of woodland consumed by the flames.
The fires, which began last Friday, have escalated into the nation’s worst wildfire crisis, prompting emergency response teams to deploy helicopters and soldiers for containment efforts.
The US also expressed sorrow for the loss of brave firefighters and others who have perished, with American forces in Korea standing ready to assist. In addition to the US, Japan also sent its condolences, wishing for the swift recovery of those impacted by the fires.
