Uproar in Kerala Assembly Over Alleged Price Hike in Subsidised Essentials
The Kerala Assembly witnessed chaos as the Opposition accused the government of clandestinely increasing the prices of 13 subsidized provisions sold through Supplyco outlets. Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan criticized the Food and Civil Supplies Minister for not disclosing the decision in the House, leading to accusations of contempt and breach of parliamentary privilege.
The government denied the allegations, stating that the subsidy for Supplyco had been increased from 25% to 35%. Despite the explanation, Opposition legislators protested vehemently, displaying banners and placards. Speaker A.N. Shamseer, unable to restore order, hastily concluded the day’s proceedings and adjourned the House sine die at the Chief Minister’s request.
