UP Police Launches ‘Jagriti’ Campaign Against False Cases by Women
The Uttar Pradesh Police has initiated the ‘Jagriti’ campaign aimed at addressing the issue of women lodging false cases and misleading law enforcement. To combat such instances and raise awareness among women about the consequences of such actions, the state’s Additional Director General (ADG, Agra zone), Anupam Kulshrestha, unveiled the campaign.
The first phase, spanning three months, began in seven districts of Agra zone, including Hathras, Kasganj, Mathura, Firozabad, Mainpuri, Etah, and Aligarh, in collaboration with the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF). The second phase will involve collecting responses after the campaign’s conclusion.
‘Jagriti’ is focused on educating women, especially in rural areas, about the repercussions of making false allegations and filing fake FIRs related to rape and sexual harassment. This initiative comes in response to concerns over the rising number of false rape cases, which had prompted a CBI investigation and raised alarm at the Allahabad high court, leading to the launch of this pilot project.
