Unusual Weather Patterns: Delhi Colder than Shimla and Dharamsala

In an unusual weather twist, Delhi experienced temperatures at least two notches colder than the popular hill destinations of Shimla and Dharamsala in Himachal Pradesh. Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 4.9 degrees Celsius, while Shimla saw a low of 6.8 degrees. The phenomenon extended to other plains in North India, with Punjab’s Amritsar and Ludhiana, and Haryana’s Hisar and Karnal, registering lower temperatures than expected for hill stations.

The inversion layer settling on mountain tops contributed to this anomaly, with the warm air from the plains overlaying the existing cold air in the mountains. Despite the colder nights in the plains, Himachal Pradesh’s popular destinations like Kasauli, Chail, Kufri, Narkanda, and Palampur experienced sunny weather, creating a unique weather pattern in the region.
