UNHCR to Share Syrian Refugee Data with Lebanese Government
The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) has reached an agreement to share its data on Syrian refugees in Lebanon with the government in Beirut. After lengthy negotiations, this deal aims to prevent the misuse of donations by ineligible individuals.
Lebanon, which hosts the largest number of refugees per capita, estimates around 2 million Syrian refugees. The agreement is designed to serve Lebanon’s interests, as well as those of the UN and donor countries, ensuring that shared data won’t be used against international law and that refugees won’t be forced to return to their homeland.
