UN Draft Resolution Calls for Cease-fire in Sudan Amid Ramadan

Britain has proposed a UN resolution urging an immediate halt to hostilities in Sudan before the start of Ramadan, expressing deep concerns over escalating violence and the dire humanitarian crisis, particularly in Darfur. With the Muslim holy month set to begin soon, the Security Council is expected to swiftly vote on the resolution, aimed at alleviating suffering and facilitating humanitarian access.

The conflict, ignited last April, has intensified, causing widespread devastation and displacement. Meanwhile, France’s UN Ambassador emphasized the need for a truce in both Sudan and Gaza, highlighting the urgency of humanitarian relief amid multiple crises. The proposed resolution underscores the imperative of unhindered humanitarian access and coordinated efforts to achieve a lasting, civilian-led democratic transition in Sudan.
