UK Accuses Russia’s FSB of Cyber-Hacking Campaign
The UK government has accused Russia’s security service, the FSB, of a sustained cyber-hacking campaign targeting politicians and individuals in public life. The government alleges that one group, linked to the FSB, stole data through cyber-attacks, including material related to the 2019 election, which was later made public.
The UK Foreign Secretary, David Cameron, called the group’s actions “completely unacceptable,” and the UK has summoned Russia’s Ambassador. Two individuals, including a serving FSB officer, are being sanctioned. The group has been accused of carrying out highly targeted hacks against politicians, civil servants, journalists, and others since at least 2015.
