U.S. Encourages India to Leverage Ties with Russia to End Ukraine Conflict
Amidst the ongoing Ukraine conflict, the U.S. has urged India to use its longstanding relationship with Russia to advocate for an end to the “illegal war” initiated by President Vladimir Putin. State Department Spokesperson Mathew Miller emphasized India’s unique position and influence, encouraging New Delhi to push for a just and lasting peace while respecting Ukraine’s sovereignty.
During his recent visit to Russia for the 22nd India-Russia annual summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the futility of resolving the conflict on the battlefield and stressed the need for peace efforts over military action. Despite maintaining strong ties with Russia, India has consistently called for dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the crisis.
