U.S. and India Regularly Consult on Democracy and Human Rights, Says State Department

A senior U.S. State Department official emphasized the ongoing high-level consultations between the United States and India regarding democracy and human rights issues. Robert S. Gilchrist from the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labour (DRL) stated, “The U.S. and India regularly consult at the highest levels on democracy and human rights issues.”

He highlighted the importance of upholding human rights obligations and commitments and mentioned regular meetings with civil society representatives from both countries. These consultations are a key component of the dialogue and engagement between the U.S. and India, according to Gilchrist.
