U.N. General Assembly President Calls for Reform of Security Council
U.N. General Assembly President Dennis Francis emphasized the urgent need for reform of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), stating that its current composition does not reflect the contemporary geopolitical reality of the world. During his visit to India, Francis highlighted the Council’s recent inability to make decisions that strengthen global peace and security.
He discussed the reform issue with India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, reaffirming India’s stance on the necessity of UNSC reform. India has consistently advocated for reforms at the United Nations, expressing disappointment over the lack of progress in the Intergovernmental Negotiations on Security Council reform. As a strong contender for permanent membership on the UNSC, India continues to push for a more inclusive and representative global decision-making body.
