Typhoon Haikui Forces Evacuation of Thousands in China’s Fujian Province
China’s coastal Fujian province has seen the evacuation of 294,100 residents due to Typhoon Haikui, the 11th typhoon of the year. Torrential rains brought by the typhoon disrupted the lives of nearly 1.6 million people in the province, with significant damage to crops, houses, and infrastructure.
The heavy rainstorms and precipitation records broke in multiple areas, leading to concerns about mountain torrents, river flooding, and secondary disasters. Emergency response efforts have mobilized nearly 60,000 people to mitigate the impact of the typhoon, which made landfall on Tuesday.
