Typhoon Doksuri Triggers Deadly Floods and Landslides in the Philippines

The death toll from the devastating floods and landslides triggered by Typhoon Doksuri in the Philippines has reached 25, with 20 people still reported missing, according to the national disaster agency’s latest update on Monday. Despite the typhoon moving away from the country last week, heavy rains persist, causing extensive flooding in many areas, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

Adding to the challenges, Cyclone Khanun, the sixth cyclone to hit the Philippines this year, has been intensifying, leading to increased southwest monsoon rains across the nation, including the capital, Metro Manila.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that Doksuri claimed 20 lives in the northern Philippines, three in a region near Metro Manila, and two in the central part of the country. Additionally, 20 individuals are still missing in the northern regions.

The widespread impact of Typhoon Doksuri affected nearly 2.4 million people in the Southeast Asian nation, with more than 50,000 people currently seeking refuge in temporary shelters. The typhoon inflicted extensive damage to houses, crops, roads, and bridges, exacerbating the situation for affected communities.
