Two Dead in Kolkata Commercial Building Fire

A major fire broke out in a commercial building in Kolkata on Sunday, killing two people and injuring several others. The fire started around 10:30 AM in the busy Park Street area, which houses many offices and shops. Thick smoke quickly filled the building, trapping several people inside.

Eyewitnesses said they saw flames and smoke coming out of the windows on the third floor. Some people shouted for help while others tried to escape. Bystanders immediately called the fire department. Firefighters arrived within minutes and began rescue operations.

The fire brigade sent at least six fire engines to control the blaze. They used water hoses and ladders to reach the upper floors. Firefighters rescued many people from the building, including office staff and shop workers. Unfortunately, they found two people unconscious during the search. Doctors at the hospital later confirmed their deaths.

Police also reached the spot and helped control the crowd. They blocked the area to allow firefighters to work without disturbance. Ambulances carried the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment. Doctors said some of the victims suffered from smoke inhalation but are now stable.

Officials believe an electrical short circuit might have caused the fire, but they have not confirmed it yet. Investigators are checking the wiring and safety measures in the building. They also plan to question the building owner and staff about the fire safety systems.

Local people blamed poor safety arrangements for the tragedy. Some said the building did not have enough fire exits or alarms. The municipal authorities have promised to inspect other commercial buildings in the area to avoid similar accidents in the future.

The incident shocked the residents of Kolkata, especially business owners and office workers. Many of them demanded strict rules and regular safety checks in commercial buildings.

The police have filed a case and will take legal action if they find any negligence. The fire department has urged all commercial building owners to follow safety norms and install proper fire equipment.

This tragedy reminds everyone about the importance of fire safety and the need for quick action during emergencies.
