Turkey Conducts Sweeping Raids, Detains 304 with Suspected ISIS Links
In a nationwide operation dubbed “Heroes-34,” Turkish security forces arrested 304 individuals suspected of having ties to the Islamic State (ISIS). The raids carried out in 32 provinces, focused on major cities like Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir. Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya emphasized the comprehensive efforts by police intelligence and counter-terrorism squads, aiming to counter terrorist threats and maintain the nation’s peace and unity.
The operation’s timing, just before New Year’s festivities, raises questions about potential security measures. Turkey has faced ISIS attacks, with one notable incident being the 2017 New Year’s shooting at an Istanbul nightclub, claiming 39 lives. The recent crackdown underscores the government’s commitment to ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.
