Tropical Cyclone Jasper Hits Northeast Australia, Thousands of Homes Without Power

Tropical Cyclone Jasper, classified as category 2, made landfall in northeast Australia, causing widespread damage and leaving thousands of homes without power. The Bureau of Meteorology reported damage to destructive wind gusts on the Far North Queensland coast as the cyclone slowly moved inland. Sustained winds near the center were recorded at 95 km per hour with gusts reaching 130 km per hour.

The cyclone affected large parts of Port Douglas, leading to power outages in the region. As Tropical Cyclone Jasper moves inland, it is expected to weaken, but the Bureau warns of locally intensive rainfall that may result in dangerous flash flooding along the coast and adjacent ranges between Cape Tribulation to Cairns.
