Tragic Spike in Drowning Incidents Along East Coast Despite Warnings
In the last four days, at least 10 people have drowned in the sea along the east coast from Mamallapuram to Palavakkam, despite police warnings against venturing into the water. The recent incidents include the bodies of two youths, Raja and Dhamodharan, found washed ashore in Uthandi. They had gone to celebrate the New Year, got drunk, and were dragged into the sea by a wave.
Another tragic incident occurred last Friday when four individuals, including two teenagers, drowned while attempting to rescue a girl struggling in the water. Warning against rough seas during this period, the police continue to urge people to avoid bathing and other activities near the coastline.
