In a heartbreaking turn of events, 30-year-old Uttar Pradesh police constable Sachin Rathi lost his life during an encounter with a notorious criminal, Ashok Yadav, in Kannauj. Rathi, set to marry a fellow constable on February 5, was part of a team attempting to apprehend Yadav, a murder accused with a notorious criminal record.
The encounter turned fatal when Yadav and his son, Abhay, opened fire on the police party. Despite the police calling in reinforcements and detaining the criminals after an hour-long exchange of gunfire, Rathi succumbed to a gunshot wound in the thigh. Originally from Muzaffarnagar, Rathi joined the police force in 2019, and his untimely death has left his family, which had been preparing for wedding celebrations, in mourning.
The young constable will be honored with a gun salute at the police lines, reflecting the somber recognition of his sacrifice in the line of duty.
