In a tragic incident, a wild elephant fell into a well at a private property in Vellakkarithadam, near Mandamangalam, Thrissur district, Kerala, early on April 23. Despite rescue efforts by forest officials and local residents, the tusker couldn’t be saved and died during the operation.
The well, lacking a support wall, became a death trap for the elephant, which was part of a herd frequently straying into human habitations in the area. The carcass was later removed from the well using a crane, highlighting the ongoing human-elephant conflict in the region.
