Tragic Accident Sparks Controversy over Security Measures for Prime Minister’s Convoy
The death of a young scooterist, Manoj Unni, in Kochi has sparked controversy as he got entangled in a rope tied across the road for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s convoy passage. Allegations from the deceased’s family suggest a lack of diligence from the police in alerting the public about the road blockade. Manoj’s sister, Chippy, lamented the absence of proper lighting, signage, or barricades to indicate the closed road. She emphasized the need for considering public safety alongside security measures for VIP movements.
The police, however, refuted these allegations, stating that the accident spot was properly illuminated. They clarified that traffic restrictions were implemented as part of standard security protocols during VIP movements, and the rope was removed once the convoy passed. Meanwhile, demands for action against responsible police officers have been raised, with accusations of culpable homicide and warnings of protests if swift action is not taken.
