Tragedy Strikes Karnataka Temple Fair: 6 Dead, Over 110 Hospitalized

A temple fair in Chinne Halli village near Midigeshi in Madhugiri, Tumakuru district, turned tragic as six individuals, including a 3-year-old child, lost their lives, and more than 110 others were hospitalized after falling ill. The victims reported symptoms of diarrhea and vomiting, suspected to have been caused by contaminated water consumed during the fair on June 9.

Authorities, including district health officials and forensic teams, are investigating the source of contamination, focusing on ongoing pipeline work under the Jal Jeevan Mission and recent cleaning of overhead water tanks prior to the event. Water samples have been tested, revealing varying degrees of contamination across several villages in the district, prompting urgent measures by the administration to address the issue.
