Tragedy Strikes: Explosion at Kerala Temple Firecracker Unit
A devastating explosion at a temporary firecracker storage unit near the Puthiyakavu Temple in Thripunithura, Kerala, has resulted in one fatality and 25 injuries, leaving nearly 30 nearby houses severely damaged. The deceased, identified as Vishnu from Thiruvananthapuram, was suspected to be among the workers engaged in firecracker storage and manufacturing.
While 18 injured individuals were admitted to government hospitals, seven were taken to private facilities, with one person in critical condition. The exact cause of the blast remains unconfirmed, though suspicions point towards a tempo traveler transporting raw materials for firecracker production. The blast occurred in preparation for the temple’s ‘Thalapoli’ festival, causing significant damage to surrounding structures and vehicles.
Emergency services, including four fire tender units, swiftly responded to the scene, with the impact felt up to two kilometers away. District authorities, including the Collector and local MP, have visited the site, emphasizing the need for an investigation into the incident and providing assistance to affected residents.
