Tragedy Strikes as Railway Bridge Collapses in Mizoram: 17 Workers Dead
A devastating incident unfolded in Mizoram as an under-construction railway bridge near the Sairang area collapsed, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 17 workers’ lives, according to officials. The mishap occurred on Wednesday morning, leaving many more workers feared trapped at the accident site.
The bridge, being built over the Kurung River to connect Bairabi and Sairang, was in the midst of construction when the collapse transpired. Currently, rescue efforts are underway, with 17 bodies recovered so far from the wreckage. The accident site is approximately 21 km away from Aizawl.
Expressing his grief, Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga conveyed his condolences via a tweet, acknowledging the tragedy and extending well-wishes to the injured while appreciating the community’s response in aiding rescue operations.
