The collapse of the country’s largest under-construction Bakaur bridge over the Kosi river in Bihar’s Supaul district has resulted in one fatality and nine injuries. The bridge, spanning 10.2 km between Bheja and Bakaur, is a significant infrastructure project for Madhubani and Supaul districts. The unfortunate incident occurred when an under-construction span (Pier No. 153-154) collapsed, trapping ten laborers. While one person lost their life, the others sustained minor injuries but are now out of danger.
The Supaul District Magistrate, Kaushal Kumar, has assured adequate compensation for the victims. Furthermore, three bridge experts and senior NHAI officials have rushed to the site to assess the cause of the accident and initiate remedial measures. The collapse underscores the importance of stringent safety measures in infrastructure projects, and Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha has pledged a thorough investigation and strict action against those found responsible.
