Traffic Management Measures for Shopping Hubs in Chennai: Designated Parking Encouraged

The Greater Chennai Traffic Police have implemented measures to streamline traffic and enhance safety in popular shopping districts. Motorists visiting T. Nagar, Purasawalkam, M.C. Road, Washermenpet, and Koyambedu are urged to utilize designated public parking lots to avoid obstructing traffic. In a press release, the police emphasized the importance of responsible parking practices.

As part of decongestion efforts, firecracker shops previously situated at Flower Bazaar have been relocated to Island Grounds to mitigate potential traffic snarls and enhance pedestrian safety. Autorickshaws without commuters are now prohibited from entering shopping areas in Purasawalkam and T. Nagar, contributing to a smoother traffic flow.

Additionally, goods-carrying vehicles are barred from these regions, with loading and unloading permitted only during nighttime. The police have facilitated parking arrangements at specified locations, such as Somasundaram Park, Sir Thyagaraya Road, Thanikachalam Road, Nachiyar Road, and Mahalakshmi Street for T. Nagar shoppers, and at school grounds on Narayana Guru Road, Alagappa Road, Purasawalkam High Road, and Gangadeeswarar Koil Street for those in Purasawalkam. These measures aim to create a more organized and efficient traffic environment in Chennai’s bustling shopping hubs.
