Torrential Rain Triggers Disasters in China’s Hebei Province, Leaving 29 Dead and 16 Missing
Recent torrential rain in China’s Hebei province has led to disastrous consequences, resulting in the deaths of at least 29 people, with 16 individuals still missing, as reported by local authorities on Friday. The province has been severely impacted by heavy downpours and flooding across 110 counties, cities, and districts, causing significant damage to transportation, power, communication, and water infrastructure.
The direct economic loss incurred in the province is estimated at 95.81 billion yuan ($13.38 billion), with the overall extent of the disaster undergoing assessment. The flooding has affected around 3.89 million people, leading to substantial damages across 319,700 hectares of crops, 40,900 collapsed houses, and 155,500 severely damaged houses.
Additionally, 1,150 primary and secondary schools, along with kindergartens, have also been adversely affected by the disaster.
