Tomato will be sold at Rs.60 per kg starting from July 4 in Chennai
The Minister of Co-operatives, K.R. Periyakaruppan, has announced that tomatoes will be sold through 82 fair price shops in Chennai at a price of ₹60 per kilogram starting from July 4. The decision was made following a meeting presided over by the minister.
This move aims to make tomatoes more accessible and affordable to the public. Additionally, there has been a marginal drop in wholesale prices as the arrival of tomatoes has improved at the Koyambedu wholesale market. This reduction in wholesale prices is expected to contribute to the availability of tomatoes at a reasonable price for consumers.
The government’s initiative to sell tomatoes through fair-price shops will ensure that essential commodities reach the public at a fair and affordable rate. This step is likely to bring relief to consumers who have been facing increasing prices of tomatoes in recent times.
