Tomato Prices Drop in Koyambedu Wholesale Market; Onion Prices Expected to Rise

In a welcome relief for consumers, tomato prices have cooled down significantly at the Koyambedu wholesale market. The recent arrival of about 350 tonnes of tomatoes, combined with lower demand, has led to a decrease in prices.

Tomatoes, which had touched ₹200 per kg, are now selling at ₹60 to ₹80 per kg in the wholesale market and around ₹100 per kg in retail outlets. This drop in prices is attributed to increased arrivals from states like Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.

However, traders warn that onion prices are likely to rise in the next two weeks due to anticipated factors. While the prices of some vegetables remain high, others like carrots, ginger, and shallots continue to be costly.
