TNPCB Directs Aavin to Clear 150 Tonnes of Plastic Waste from Ambattur Dairy Premises
The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) has issued an instruction to the Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers Federation Ltd., known for its Aavin brand, to remove 150 tonnes of accumulated plastic waste from the premises of its Ambattur dairy. The directive comes after a TNPCB inspection on July 17, prompted by a National Green Tribunal (NGT) order.
The inspection revealed that the dairy had stored various plastic waste items such as used crates, butter cartons, milk sachets, damaged plastic bottles, and ice cream containers at four different locations on its premises.
In response, the milk federation was asked to provide information on its plastic waste generation and disposal over the past three years, plans for waste removal, and details of waste management practices. The TNPCB also urged Aavin to adopt proper waste disposal methods to prevent the accumulation and dispersion of plastic waste.
