Thrissur Corporation’s Budget Prioritizes Development and Revenue Generation

The recently presented budget by the Thrissur City Corporation underscores a commitment to development initiatives while emphasizing revenue-generation strategies. Deputy Mayor M.L. Rosy’s budget proposal suggests leveraging advertisement spaces at renovated bus stands to generate a monthly revenue of ₹15 lahks, along with plans to install LED walls at key tourism destinations and Corporation-owned buildings.

A significant allocation of ₹50 lakh has been earmarked for preliminary works under the Master Plan, signaling a focus on long-term urban planning. Notably, the budget allocates ₹8 crore for establishing multi-level parking facilities across ten locations within the city, addressing pressing concerns regarding parking infrastructure.

Additionally, the budget allocates funds for various infrastructure projects, including the installation of a statue honoring former Chief Minister C. Achutha Menon, renovation of footpaths, and upgrades to the Corporation stadium’s synthetic track. Sakthan Nagar’s revitalization, along with initiatives like setting up shelters for street dogs and forming a labor bank for unemployed youth, underscores the Corporation’s holistic approach to community development and welfare. Furthermore, plans to organize job fairs demonstrate a proactive stance towards addressing employment challenges and fostering economic opportunities within the region.
