In Chennai’s Thideer Nagar, nearly 900 families are enduring severe sanitation issues, contradicting the Greater Chennai Corporation’s 2018 declaration of an “open defecation free” city. The lack of functional public toilets forces residents to use open spaces, including nearby burial grounds, for defecation.
Clogged and neglected toilets, along with inadequate sewage infrastructure, exacerbate health risks and living conditions. Despite government promises of new facilities and residential upgrades, immediate relief remains a distant hope for the struggling community.
