The death toll from recent torrential rainfall in South Korea has reached 47, with one more body recovered by rescuers in Yecheon, 161 kilometers southeast of Seoul, on Friday. Three people are still reported missing after the landslides and floods caused by heavy rains that have been affecting the country since early last week. Approximately 2,000 of the 18,000 evacuees in 15 cities and provinces are still taking shelter in evacuation centers.
The state weather agency predicts monsoon rains of up to 100 millimeters to continue over the weekend, as a stationary front and low atmospheric pressure move from northeastern China to North Korea, causing humid heat and heavy rains across South Korea until Monday.
