In a significant move to combat drug abuse, Telangana plans to establish anti-drug committees across all villages with the assistance of women self-help groups (SHGs). At the State-wide celebration of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TGNAB) Director Sandeep Shandilya emphasized the role of these committees in tackling the growing menace of drug addiction. The event, attended by over 2,000 students from various educational institutions, aimed to mobilize young people as ‘anti-drug soldiers’ pledging to fight against substance abuse.
State Minister Jupally Krishna Rao highlighted the devastating impact of drugs on health and society, reinforcing the government’s commitment to strict enforcement and punishment for drug-related offenses. Minister of Women and Child Welfare Anasuya Seethakka underscored the urgency in addressing drug-related crimes, particularly among students, urging proactive measures at educational levels to curb the infiltration of drugs into schools and colleges.
