Telangana High Court Urges Immediate Action to Salvage Hyderabad’s Water Bodies
Following a report presented by a committee tasked with assessing the condition of 13 lakes in Hyderabad, the Telangana High Court expressed deep concern over the alarming levels of pollution plaguing these water bodies. The court highlighted the grave environmental implications, particularly noting the peril posed to public health by the use of contaminated water for growing vegetables near Nalla Cheruvu of Uppal. Emphasizing the urgent need for remedial action, the court directed officials to halt such practices and instructed the Additional Advocate General to ensure swift intervention.
Moreover, the court lamented the degradation of the natural habitat for various species due to pollution and urged authorities to take immediate steps to preserve and protect these vital water resources. Additionally, the committee’s report underscored the lack of essential infrastructure like fences, surveillance cameras, and guards to prevent encroachments, signaling a dire need for comprehensive conservation efforts to mitigate further deterioration of the lakes.
