Telangana Floods: Over 40 Lives Lost, State Government Announces Relief Measures

The state of Telangana has been grappling with heavy rains and devastating floods, which have resulted in over 40 casualties, as reported by the state government on Monday. To address the urgent situation, the state Cabinet, led by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, has taken significant steps to provide immediate relief and support to the affected areas.

The Cabinet has allocated Rs 500 crore for relief operations and the repair of damaged roads. Additionally, the families of the deceased will receive ex-gratia payments, and the government has paid homage to those who tragically lost their lives in the floods. The Cabinet discussed the extensive damages caused by the heavy rains, with districts like Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Hanmakonda, Nirmal, Adilabad, Khammam, and Kothagudem being severely affected.

Crops, roads, and bridges have been severely damaged, and canals and lakes breached due to the torrential downpour. As part of the relief efforts, the Cabinet has prioritized the repair of R and B (Roads and Buildings) and Panchayat roads on a war footing. To assess the extent of crop damages, the Cabinet has requested Collectors to gather field information to aid the affected farmers.

The damaged culverts and roads will be swiftly repaired to ensure easy accessibility. In response to the disaster, 27,000 people have been shifted to relief camps in the affected districts, and the government is committed to providing rehabilitation support to all those impacted by the floods.
