Tata Projects has emerged as the top bidder for the Villivakkam-Kolathur underground stretch on the Chennai Metro Phase II project. This key stretch, part of corridor 5 between Madhavaram and Sholinganallur, spans about 5 km and includes stops at 5 locations, including Srinivasa Nagar, Villivakkam Bus Terminus, and Villivakkam MTH Road. The underground construction work is set to begin soon in areas like Villivakkam and Kolathur.
This civil contract, which links important areas in the city, is one of the last to be finalized for Phase II of the Chennai Metro Rail. The entire project will cover approximately 116 km across the city, with three corridors – Madhavaram to SIPCOT 45.4 km corridor 3, Light House to Poonamallee 26.1 km corridor 4, and Madhavaram to Sholinganallur 44.6 km corridor 5. Tata Projects placed the lowest bid for the underground stretch from Kolathur to Villivakkam, an essential section of corridor 5.
